When a new contact is added to your database, you can automatically send them a timely, personalised "Welcome" email.*
* Some users will find that this campaign is already created in their accounts.
Creating a "Welcome" email campaign
A basic "Welcome" email campaign needs to include the following modules:
- Choose recipients
- Trigger: On Subscription
- Action: Send Email
To further customise and target your touchpoint, you can optionally add:
- A time Delay (1);
- And/or Conditions (2).
To create a "Welcome" email campaign, start by navigating to the Campaigns menu, and select Create Campaign.
From here:
- If you are given campaign options, e.g.: Pre-built, Email, SMS, choose Email Campaign.
- Give your new campaign an internal reference name, e.g.: Welcome Campaign, then select Continue
- Within the campaign builder, you'll first see your Choose recipients module.
You can set this to Send to all Contacts (using the toggle), as the email will only be sent to contacts that match the trigger you are about to add next. *
* Setting recipients to "Send to all contacts" here effectively means that all contacts in your database will be considered when moving to the next step. If this was followed with a Date & Time scheduler, rather than a Trigger, this would send to all contacts.
- Select Add a new module, and from the Trigger options, choose On Subscription.
Using this trigger means that only contacts that are newly added to your database after the campaign is activated will be included. *
* Accounts using CSV imports to manage contacts as well as those with CRM integrations can use this trigger. Learn more about how these campaigns are triggered (based on contact management), and how "new" contacts are defined.
Optionally, if you would like there to be a time Delay between the contact being added to your database and the touchpoint being sent:
- After adding the Trigger, select Add a new module, and from the Scheduler options, choose Delay.
- Within the Delay module, use the dropdowns to set how long after subscription you would like the touchpoint to be sent, e.g.: 3 Days.
- Within the Delay module, use the dropdowns to set how long after subscription you would like the touchpoint to be sent, e.g.: 3 Days.
Again optionally, if you would like to set a Condition that your contacts must also meet to be included:
- After adding the Trigger (and optional Delay), select Add a new module, and choose a Condition.
For example, using "If Attribute", you could send a different campaign to those equal to and not equal to a certain attribute, like a location. Using this example, if you have contacts in the US and Canada, you could send different versions of your Welcome email, based on their location.
Then add your touchpoint:
- Select Add a new module, and choose the Action of Send Email.
- Within the Send Email module, either use the dropdown to select your Welcome email (if you have already created it), or stay on Select Email and choose Create to go through to the email builder. Once created and saved, you'll go back to the Campaign builder.
- Within the Send Email module, either use the dropdown to select your Welcome email (if you have already created it), or stay on Select Email and choose Create to go through to the email builder. Once created and saved, you'll go back to the Campaign builder.
From here, you can go on to create more touchpoints, using Delays and optional Conditions, or if this completes your campaign, the last step is to select Save & Activate, so that any new contacts added from this point will receive your Welcome email.
