Campaigns using the "On Subscription" trigger, for example the commonly used "Welcome" email campaign*, start sending touchpoints to contacts when they are first added to your database.
* You can create a Welcome email campaign yourself, if this is not already pre-built in your account.
Depending on how your contacts are added to your account, there are slight differences in how On Subscription events are triggered, and how contacts are classed as "new".
Integrated Contacts
If your contacts are integrated with a CRM, Campaigns using the "On Subscription" trigger automatically begin whenever a new contact is added. *
* If the campaign is active when contacts are added.
What is a "new" contact?
When contacts are integrated with your CRM, they are classed as new if the Contact ID number (given to the contact by the CRM), has not been recorded in ActivePipe before, either for the User the contact is newly assigned to, or the brand the User belongs to.
i.e.: If a contact is moved from one User to another within the same brand (and same CRM integration), it will not trigger subscription based (e.g.: Welcome) campaigns.
If a contact record is created in your CRM and sync's with ActivePipe without an email address, and an email address is added at a later date, adding the email will not trigger On Subscription emails, as the contact record (ID) has already been recorded in ActivePipe. If you would like to welcome this contact, use the send an email to a single contact method.
It is important to note that if the same email is entered in your CRM as a new contact record (and therefore has a different contact ID), this will be classed as a new contact and On Subscription campaigns will trigger. We recommend to always check emails against existing contact records in your CRM, before creating new records.
Contacts managed with CSV uploads
When you manage your contacts within ActivePipe (using CSV imports), you can opt to trigger On Subscription campaigns as part of the upload process. On the Review page, tick the Trigger subscription events for new contacts option (1) before you select Finish Importing. *
What is a "new" contact?
When you manage your contacts within ActivePipe, the email address is used to define a unique contact. If you upload existing (email) contacts, they will be automatically excluded from On Subscription campaigns.
* It's important to note that the On Subscription campaigns (e.g.: Welcome Campaign) need to be Activated before the new contacts are added, in order for the Welcome Email to be sent.
