Using the Contact Event Date trigger, you can automatically set a campaign to:
- Send once: Send on the exact date of a special event, e.g.: a property settlement date;
- Send and repeat annually: Send on the same date each year, e.g.: Birthdays. *
* You can also send at a specified time before or after a contact event. Learn more.
Create a Contact Event Date triggered campaign
To create a campaign triggered by a contact event date, start by navigating to the Campaigns menu.
From here:
- Select Create Campaign
- Give your campaign a name, then select Continue
Once you are in the campaign builder:
- Within the Choose recipients module, decide who you want to include (or exclude), e.g.: You may set the Send to ALL contacts toggle to ON.
- Then select Add a new module.
- Select the trigger of Contact Event Date (1) *
* If you cannot see this trigger, this functionality is not enabled in your account.

- Within the Contact Event Date module, use the Select Event dropdown to choose the contact event you want to trigger by. Any date type custom fields you have in your account will be included here.
- Choose the time of day that you would like this to send, using the hour, minute and AM/PM dropdowns.
- Set the timing of the trigger as On the event date, as opposed to before or after the event date.
- Then choose to either:
- Send Once.
- Or, Send and repeat annually on the same date.
"Send once" use case
Send once triggers when it matches to a contact's event date by day, month and year, so this option is great for one time events that will happen in the future, like a property settlement date.
* As this option matches to year, birthdays will not trigger if set to "Send once", as it is in the past.
For birthdays, use the "Send and repeat annually" option.
"Send and repeat annually" use case
Send and repeat annually triggers when it matches to a contact's event date by day and month (but not year).
For example, in a birthday campaign, it will trigger on the first occurrence of a contact's birthday after the campaign is activated, and then repeat on the same date each year.
Completing your campaign
Once your Contact Event date module is set, complete your campaign set up:
- Select Add a new module, and choose the Action of Send Email.
- Within the Send Email module, either create a new email, or select a pre-existing one.
Once you have made all of your selections, select Save & Activate to set your campaign live.
