Drip campaigns, also known as nurture or lead nurture campaigns, allow you to automatically send two or more emails to your contacts, separated by set periods of time. This allows you to nurture your contacts with timely, relevant content.
To create a drip campaign, start by navigating to the Campaigns menu.
From here:
- Select Create Campaign
- Give your new campaign a name (this is just an internal reference).
- Select Continue to go through to the campaign builder.
There are two ways you can start a drip campaign:
- Start a drip campaign using a scheduled Date & Time
- Start a drip campaign using a Trigger
* The method used to start your campaign may affect how you choose your campaign recipients, keep this in mind when creating your campaign.
Start a drip campaign using a scheduled Date & Time
Within the campaign builder, you'll first see the Choose Recipients module. If you're using a scheduled date & time to start your campaign, consider filtering your recipients to make sure the content you are sending is relevant and targeted:
- Select the contacts that you want to reach, e.g.: All contacts with the Tag of "Buyer" *
* Learn more about selecting recipients
- Then select Add a new module:
- Choose Scheduler: Date & Time
- Within the Date & Time module, set a date and time to start your campaign.
- Do not tick the checkbox to Repeat this schedule, unless you want to send the whole drip campaign repeatedly.
- Choose Scheduler: Date & Time
OR start a drip campaign using a Trigger
Within the campaign builder, you'll first see the Choose Recipients module.
If you're using a trigger to start your campaign, you can select all contacts to begin with, as the trigger will filter and send to only the contacts that match the trigger.*
- Select the Send to ALL Contacts toggle, to move it to the ON position.
- Then select Add a new module and choose a Trigger, e.g.:
- Trigger: Tag Changed
- Within the trigger module, type in and select a group of contacts that you want to target, e.g: "Buyer".
- In the dropdown to the right of that, select the action to trigger by, e.g.: Added *
- In the case of Tag Added, you can also choose if you want to send the campaign to the contacts that currently have your chosen tag, at the time your campaign is activated.
- Trigger: Tag Changed
* This means that only contacts that have the tag of "Buyer" added will receive this email campaign. Learn more about Triggers here.
Add your first email
Once your recipients and a trigger or date and time are set:
- Select Add a new module:
- Choose Action: Send Email
- Choose an email from the dropdown, or select Create to create a new email.
- Choose Action: Send Email
Add a time delay
Once your first email has been added:
- Select Add a new module:
- Choose Scheduler: Delay
- Within the Delay module, set the time period that you want to separate your first and second email by, e.g.: 1 week
- Choose Scheduler: Delay
* After adding a time delay, you can choose to optionally add Conditions to any subsequent emails being sent, e.g.: only send subsequent emails to contacts that opened the first email.
Add the second email
Once the delay has been added:
- Select Add a new module:
- Choose Action: Send Email
- Create or select your second email.
Add more emails, or complete the campaign
If you want more emails in your drip campaign, repeat the add a Delay and add Send Email steps.
Once you have added all the emails you want in your campaign journey, complete your campaign by either selecting Save, to save your campaign to return to later, or Save & Activate to set your campaign live.
* Once you have created one "drip" campaign, you can use it as a template, duplicate it, and edit/save copies to save yourself time.
