It's easy to use placeholders from the dropdown, but what if you want to use them in a button, hyperlinked text or email subject line?
You can still do so, and it's still a simple process. All you need to know is the specific code you need to use for each standard or custom placeholder, for example: [@contact.firstname]
Use a placeholder in your email subject
To use a placeholder within your email subject line, start by clicking on the email to enter the email editor.
From here:
- Within the subject line, type in any preceding text.
- Then type in your placeholder - or copy and paste it to ensure accuracy.
- Then type in any text that needs to come after your placeholder.
For example:
* It's important to note that contact placeholders will not dynamically change when you view or send a preview, they will only populate in a live send, when connected to a database.
Use a placeholder in a button
To use a placeholder with a button, start by choosing how you want to add your button - either within a text / text & images panel, or in a standalone button panel.
From here:
For a button within a Text / Text & Images panel:
- Click the button icon.
- Under Link Type, choose Web Address.
- Under URL, type or paste in your link.
- Under Button Text, type in any text needed, and copy/paste in your placeholder.
- Click Continue
Or for a button panel:
- Click the options icon, or double click the button on the panel.
- Stay on the Button Details sub menu.
- Under Link Type, choose Web Address.
- Under URL, type or paste in your link.
- Under Button Text, type in any text needed, and copy/paste in your placeholder.
- Click Continue
Use a placeholder with hyperlinked text
To use a placeholder with a hyperlink, start by making the relevant panel active by clicking on it.
From there:
- Within the panel, type or paste in your placeholder as it suits.
- Highlight the text you want to link, including the placeholder.
- Click the Hyperlink icon found in the text editing toolbar above.
- Under Link Type, select Web Address.
- Under URL, type in (or paste) your link.
- Click Continue
