How many characters are there to one message credit?
A single message allows for up to and including 160 standard characters*, including spaces.
If you type more than 160 standard characters, this becomes a "multi-part" message, and each "part", including the first part, has a limit of 153 characters (7 characters are used by invisible headers and footers, indicating the part of the message being sent).
For example:
- Message "A" has exactly 160 standard characters = 1 credit
- Message "B" has 310 standard characters (153 + 153 + 4) = 3 credits
The following table provides a quick reference:
Standard characters | Credits charged |
1 - 160 | 1 |
161 - 306 | 2 |
307 - 459 | 3 |
460 - 612 | 4 |
613 - 765 | 5 |
766 - 918 | 6 |
919 - 1071 | 7 |
1072 - 1224 | 8 |
1225 - 1337 | 9 |
1338 - 1530 | 10 |
1531-1600 (limit) | 11 |
Once you have 161 standard characters or more, you will see your Credit Cost (per contact) increase (1),(2).
* The use of emoji's and unicode will affect character limits, i.e: the limit for one unicode message is 70; multi-part messages are 67 characters each. Find out more about this here.
