Placeholders allow you to include dynamic content in your emails to personalise it, i.e: Start with "Hello John".
To use a placeholder, start by making the relevant panel active. Then:
- Type any content you want to precede the placeholder, e.g: Hello
- Click on the placeholder dropdown found in the formatting bar above.
- Choose a placeholder, e.g: Contact > First name
Your email will update and you will see the placeholder highlighted.
You can use any of the standard placeholders contained in the dropdown, details on how to utilise these within the subject line or links in your email can be found here.
Some important points to note:
Why isn’t the placeholder changing in previews?
Some placeholders won’t populate in live previews, or previews sent to your inbox (e.g: First name). They will only populate when connected to a database in an actual send.
What if a contact doesn't have a first name in ActivePipe?
If a contact record does not include a first name, the First Name placeholder will populate as blank.
For this reason, we recommend using preceding text that still looks natural without a first name, e.g: Instead of "Dear First Name", use "Hello First Name".
Using the "Greeting" placeholder
With contact greetings, "First Name" is the default placeholder used by ActivePipe.
Depending on your CRM, you may prefer to use the "Greeting" placeholder.
|CRM||CRM field mapped to ActivePipe "Greeting" placeholder|
|Box + Dice||Salutation|
|Mercury||Salutation or First name|
