If your contact CRM is not integrated with ActivePipe, it’s easy for you to upload and manage your contacts within your account.
Start by compiling your contact list, either by exporting this from your CRM, or a manually built spreadsheet. Make sure your file is saved as a .csv file.
We recommend you upload at a minimum a first name and an email address, but you can map many other fields and attributes if you wish to.
Once you are in your ActivePipe account, start by navigating to the Contacts menu.
From here:
- Click the Add Contacts button.
- From the dropdown you can choose to either Create (a single) Contact, or Import Contacts. To import a CSV file choose Import Contacts.
- Drag and drop in your CSV file, or click the click here to select the file from your computer link to locate it on your local computer, select it, and click Open
- Click the Import Contacts button.
- ActivePipe will scan your data, and will firstly ask you to Verify your Fields:
- Check that the fields in your file are being correctly matched to the fields in ActivePipe, e.g: "First Name" in your csv, matches the "First Name" field in ActivePipe.
- You can map any non-standard fields by clicking the dropdown box across from the field (which will say -ignore-) and select Create Custom Field. Type a name for your new field in the box, then click Save
- You can also map contact tags at this stage.
- Once you have verified and/or mapped all your fields, click Continue
- Next, you will be asked to review your contacts. Look over the sample records displayed to check everything looks correct. At this stage you also have a few additional options:
- Add Tags to new contacts:
- Tick this and in the box that appears below start typing in an existing tag.
Select it from the dropdown matches. - OR tick this and type in a new tag.
- Tick this and in the box that appears below start typing in an existing tag.
- Add Tags to new contacts:
- Unsubscribe all contacts that are not in this import:
- Tick this box if all your subscribed contacts are contained in your import, and you don't want to communicate with anyone outside of it.
- Trigger subscription events for new contacts:
- Tick this to connect to running campaigns triggered by subscription, e.g: the Welcome Email.
Note: The campaign with the subscription trigger needs to be Running prior to your CSV upload.
- Tick this to connect to running campaigns triggered by subscription, e.g: the Welcome Email.
It’s also important to know that if you are re-uploading existing contacts, ActivePipe will automatically recognise them (based on email address) and update them, rather than duplicate them.
- Once you have checked the sample and selected any additional options, click Finish Importing
- ActivePipe will complete the upload (this may take a little time if you are uploading thousands of contacts), and provide you with an Import Overview.
This shows you contacts that are:- New: Have not been uploaded to this account before.
- Updated: An existing contact that has been updated.
- Skipped: These contact records were not imported. Details on why can be found below the overview, by clicking the Show Skipped Records link. This data can also be downloaded for follow up.
- Total: the total number of contacts uploaded in this import.
To double check that your import was successful, navigate back to the Contacts Menu to see the overview, and click the Contact List tab to see them in detail.
